About Us

At TMG Makerspace, our mission is to provide Africans with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to innovate and solve African problems. We achieve this through our comprehensive programs, focusing on Idea Development, Skills and People Development, and Product Development and Projects. With our wealth of experience in makerspace design and set up, TMG Makerspace is your go-to partner. We have successfully established and operated the Tshimologong Makerspace for Wits Tshimologong Precinct since 2018, and recently collaborated with the Royal Bafokeng Nation Development Trust to launch the Bafokeng RoboticsLab. Skills development is at the heart of what we do. We provide regular training and upskilling opportunities for students, youth, and professionals. Through our practical approach, participants in our programs gain proficiency in technologies such as 3D Printing, Internet of Things, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Augmented and Virtual Reality, and Data Science. . We support innovators in idea development by hosting Design Thinking and Prototyping Workshops. These workshops help innovators fully understand the problems they aim to solve and introduce them to practical prototyping methods. When it comes to product development, TMG Makerspace is here to offer support to makers and innovators in utilizing technologies like Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Augmented and Virtual Reality, and Digital Fabrication. We provide access to space, equipment, and materials for the development of prototypes and Minimum Viable Products. By enabling Africa to harness these technologies, we strive to empower the continent to solve its own problems. Through strategic partnerships with academic institutes, corporate companies, and government entities, TMG Makerspace is actively involved in project design and implementation. Notable projects include the Tshimologong Entreprise Development's JPMorgan YaBasadi in 4IR Incubation Programme, where we offer technology coaching and development for 12 startup companies. Additionally, we are managing the implementation of the annual City of Johannesburg Smart City Innovation Challenge, in collaboration with the University of Witwatersrand. Let’s innovate!
